Identify Your Skin Type

Dry, oily, normal, combination, sensitive, acne-prone… Do you know your “skin type”?

Skin is usually not uniformly dry nor oily.  For most, skin is best described as “combination” – dry here and oily there…   Btw, there is nothing abnormal about skin that is not “normal” – miraculously balanced skin is largely a pipe dream!

Finding out a “skin type” is often less complicated than we would be led to believe. If your skin looks very oily, it probably is, and if you frequently contend with acne, it is probably acne-prone.

But identifying skin type is not always trivial as one needs to distinguish skin type from temporary skin conditions. Type is mostly driven by genetics and mostly with you for life. Unlike skin type, skin condition can vary greatly – pollution, allergies, diet, medication, stress influence the levels of sebum, sweat and moisture that skin produces. So do seasons, body cycles, and a myriad of other factors.

Here are a few questions to guide your core skincare choices when in doubt.
